Na svou poslední cestu centrem Káhiry se vydalo 18 egyptských králů a 4 královny, mezi nimi i ti nejslavnější. Jejich ostatky, které dříve odpočívaly v Egyptském muzeu, budou nově umístěny v Národním muzeu egyptské civilizace, které se nachází v jižní části hlavního města. A byla to nevídaná podívaná, takzvaný Zlatý průvod projel městem za zvuků čestných salv.
Ramesse II. i Hatšepsut
V čele průvodu jel faraon Sekenenre Tao, který vládl přibližně v 16. století před naším letopočtem, společně s dalšími nejstaršími panovníky. Nechyběl ani jeden z nejvýznamnějších panovníků Ramesse II., jenž ve 13. století před Kristem vládl úctyhodných 67 let, podepsal první mírovou smlouvu a nechal vystavět celou řadu chrámů. Nové místo odpočinku nalezne i královna Hatšepsut, jež v Egyptě vládla v letech 1479-1458 před letopočtem, a to jako muž, neboť ženy neměly na trůn nárok. Převezené mumie byly nalezeny na konci 19. století v ruinách Théb, k jejich identifikaci pak došlo o řadu let později.
Lepší podmínky pro uložení ostatků
Zlatý průvod faraonů doprovázela přísná bezpečnostní opatření, ještě před cestou došlo ke stabilizování a zakonzervování ostatků, aby při transportu nebyly nijak poškozeny. V Národním muzeu egyptské civilizace, které je otevřené od roku 2017, je čekají lepší podmínky než v jejich předchozím stanovišti. Profesorka egyptologie na Americké univerzitě v Káhiře Salima Ikramová popsala, že mumie budou v prostředí s lepší teplotou a kontrolou vlhkosti.
Nové muzeum s mumií Tutanchamona
Přemístění ostatků ovšem není poslední velkou událostí připomínající dávnou historii Egypta. Poblíž slavných pyramid v Gíze by mělo vzniknout Velké egyptské muzeum, jehož největším lákadlem má být mumie faraona Tutanchamona. Přestože tento faraon, který vládl v letech 1333 až 1323 před naším letopočtem, nebyl příliš významný, jeho jméno v současnosti zná snad každý. Jeho hrobka byla objevena ve 20. letech minulého století v egyptském Údolí králů britským archeologem Howardem Carterem a tento nález vyvolal obrovskou vlnu zájmu o egyptskou historii. Šlo o výjimečný objev, neboť hrobka na rozdíl od řady jiných nebyla nikdy zcela vyloupena. Dochovala se tak i překrásná Tutanchamonova zlatá posmrtná maska.
Legenda o kletbě
Odhalení jeho hrobky je také spojeno s legendou o Tutanchamonově kletbě. Říkalo se, že zahubí každého, kdo do hrobky vstoupí. Tuto legendu podnítil fakt, že několik lidí, kteří práce v hrobce prováděli, skutečně zemřelo. Nebyl to však tak vysoký počet, jak se někteří domnívali. Z 58 lidí jich zemřelo 8, a to během 12 let. Podle vědců však Tutanchamon na tato úmrtí vliv mít mohl. V hrobce se totiž rozmnožily spory plísní, které mohou způsobovat onemocnění.
